Functional Overview
The WP throttle pedal assembly replaces the factory steel accelerator pedal used in right‑hand‑drive vehicles. It is engineered to maintain the original pedal ratio, hinge geometry, and cable/position‑sensor alignment so that throttle response and calibration remain unchanged. The pedal operates as a lever arm mounted on a pivot bush, transmitting driver input to the throttle cable or electronic sensor.
Construction and Materials
- Main pedal arm: CNC‑machined aluminium, anodised in silver to increase corrosion resistance and surface hardness.
- Pedal pad: Aluminium, left unanodised to prevent visible wear marks from repeated foot contact. Bare aluminium develops a natural patina rather than showing patchy abrasion.
- Mounting hardware: Typically stainless steel fasteners to prevent galvanic corrosion with the aluminium body.
- Pivot interface: Designed to reuse the OEM pivot pin or bush, ensuring correct pedal travel and smooth operation.
Mechanical Design Features
- Right‑hand‑drive geometry: The arm is shaped align with the driver’s natural foot angle.
- Lightweight construction: Aluminium reduces mass compared to steel, improving pedal return speed and reducing fatigue on the return spring.
- Drilled pedal pad: Multiple holes reduce weight and provide grip. These holes also offer convenient anchor points for the return spring used on later MPI models.
- Compatibility with OEM return spring:
- All models from 1959 including MPI (1996‑onwards) vehicles which use a lower‑arm return spring.
- Many users attach this spring through one of the drilled holes in the pedal pad, which provides a secure and functional mounting point without modification.
Integration With Brake and Clutch Pads – WP25005
The throttle pedal is designed to visually and ergonomically complement matching aluminium brake and clutch pedal pads. When combined:
- Pedal spacing and height remain OEM‑correct.
- The driver benefits from a consistent metal‑pedal surface across all three controls.
- Aesthetic uniformity is improved, especially in motorsport‑style interiors.
Installation and Compatibility Notes
- Direct bolt‑on fit for right‑hand‑drive models using the standard pedal box.
- Compatible with both cable‑operated and early electronic throttle systems, provided the original linkage or sensor mount is retained.
- No modification to the bulkhead, pedal box, or throttle cable required.
- For MPI models, the return spring can be relocated to a drilled hole without affecting pedal travel or spring tension.
