It is a key upgrade for any performance‑oriented A‑series build and may require minor timing cover modification plus the correct AEA687 screws for installation.

How it works and why it matters

Accurate cam timing is critical on A‑series engines because:

• Factory tolerances, skimmed blocks/heads, and reground cams often shift the installed timing.
• Performance camshafts rely on exact opening/closing events to deliver their intended powerband.
• Duplex chains reduce timing scatter compared with simplex systems, improving ignition stability.

A Vernier system lets you:

• Set the cam exactly to the manufacturer’s timing figures.
• Fine‑tune for torque, drivability, or peak power.
• Compensate for wear or machining changes.
